| Color Top Ecowide Demonstration Show |

TKS demonstrated the “Color Top Ecowide” (4x1 - 4-page width and 1-page circumference) coldset web press, at the TKS Tamagawa Factory in Kawasaki, Japan from November 5 to 6, 2008, with about 400 customers on-hand. The demonstration show of the Color Top Ecowide, which was developed to the customer specifications, was exhibited per the customer’s request. This same type press was first exhibited at the USA’s NEXPO show in June, 2003 and later three presses (7 towers per press) were sold to the Newspaper Agency Corporation in May, 2005 and are now running in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The demonstrated tower unit is compact and lighter-weight with less width (100 mm), height (300 mm), and weight (about 10 tons or 20% weight reduction) from a conventional 4x2 tower unit. The use of a narrow gap (slit-type) lock-up system in the single plate cylinder results in higher printing quality. The use of a single plate cylinder also results in less unit vibration and less plate usage (compared to a two-around cylinder) that realizes positive environmental impact and cost savings. The blanket cylinder also utilizes a narrow gap with 2 wrapping-in shafts for the both ends of blanket, which results in higher print quality, longer blanket life, easy blanket replacement and reduced maintenance requirements. TKS can realize a maximum printing speed of 80,000 cph (copies per hour), the same as the existing TKS 4x2 tower unit (4-page width and 2-page circumference). Each Color Top Ecowide Tower is designed with a full bearer to bearer contact system and automatic register control system with anti fan-out rolls that result in consistent printing quality and the elimination of fan-out phenomena. The Color Top Ecowide press is a “Shaftless Press” with each printing couple driven by a small, eco-drive motor. Furthermore, when the eco-drive motors are in braking mode (slowing-down of press), they work like generators and convert the mechanical (inertia) energy into electrical energy, which they feed back, so the power savings and reduction of heat are realized. TKS Digital Ink Pumps are used for the inking system, but open fountain inking is also available based customer’s request.
Also during the demonstration, TKS Hybrid Printing and new KKS Counter Stacker were demonstrated.
Hybrid Printing: This is the combination of digital printing and normal offset printing technologies. The digital printing is performed after the normal offset printing on the same running web and applies a different image and numbering on each copy by ink-jet printer installed at the folder. TKS holds the patent for Hybrid Printing Technology which shows the new possibility of web offset printing for the future.
Counter Stacker: A new type stacker CS-510 was connected to the press and demonstrated. This new stacker is manufactured by KKS (a TKS group company) and is improved in the areas of point of stability, upgraded systems, and easy maintenance compared to conventional stackers.
TKS received the order of the demonstrated “Color Top Ecowide” from Kousoku Offset Co., Ltd. Settu Factory in Osaka, Japan.
